What is Social Thinking®?
Social Thinking® is perspective taking. It is having the awareness of other people’s points of view, emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and intentions. For most people, this social awareness is something we take for granted. It’s an intuitive process that allows us to decode unspoken social messages within milliseconds and helps guide us to proper responses that match the social context. For others, Social Thinking® is a source of confusion and frustration that leads to isolation and loneliness. This is particularly acute in children with autism spectrum disorders (especially high-functioning autism and Asperger Syndrome), ADHD, nonverbal learning disorder, and similar challenges. |
